Bezza Brook

Site-led retaining, drainage and concrete delivery within a United Utilities capital-delivery project.

Cowran Estate Services led delivery of the retaining-wall and drainage package under A.E. Yates within a United Utilities capital-delivery project. Cowran coordinated the people, plant, concrete, drainage, structural activities, earthworks and project records needed to turn the designed solution into controlled work on the ground.

The challenge

A slipped embankment beside the brook required retaining, drainage, lifting, concrete and earthworks to be managed as one coordinated operation, with tight technical, environmental, logistical and quality interfaces.

What Cowran managed and delivered

  • Retaining-wall construction package
  • Drainage installation within the contracted scope
  • Concrete placement and conformity records
  • Drawing, RAMS and quality-record coordination

How delivery was controlled

  • Integrated site planning across retaining, drainage and concrete works
  • Concrete delivery and conformity evidence
  • Drawing-led construction control
  • Package-specific RAMS and records

Delivery outcome

The project record demonstrates Cowran's leadership of the retaining, drainage, concrete and associated earthworks package. Formal completion and client-acceptance claims will be added only when the relevant controlled close-out evidence is available.

Inside the delivery

Technical evidence, not decoration.

Selected project records show how Cowran's teams understood, controlled and delivered the work on the ground. Each extract is screened for attribution, privacy and public-release suitability.

A.E. Yates proposed layout for Bezza Brook showing the rerouted channel, two retaining-wall rows, rock armour, drainage and bank reprofilingOpen full drawing
Proposed layout

The whole intervention, in one plan.

The plan brings the rerouted brook, two rows of king-post walling, sleeper infill, drainage, rock armour, bank reprofiling and temporary watercourse protection into one construction picture.

Site sections

The slipped bank rebuilt as a controlled system.

Two sections show the failed embankment excavated and rebuilt in stepped, compacted layers around a two-tier king-post retaining system, with seeded matting and the brook carried on a regraded alignment.

Retaining detail

The retaining wall, resolved to construction detail.

The detail resolves galvanized posts, concrete bases, timber-sleeper infill, filter fabric, granular drainage, perforated pipe and alternative rock-armour or pre-seeded bagwork toe protection.
